Victor Osimhen: Star striker caged as Galatasaray edge past Trabzonspor

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen’s red-hot scoring streak came to a halt on Saturday at Papara Park, as Galatasaray edged Trabzonspor 2-0 in a tense Super Lig encounter.

Goals from defender Abdulkerim Bardakcı and forward Álvaro Morata secured a crucial away victory for Okan Buruk’s side, preserving their six-point lead at the top of the Super Lig table with just three matches remaining.

Osimhen, who had found the net in five of Galatasaray’s last six outings—only drawing a blank against Bodrum on April 18—was kept uncharacteristically subdued by a well-organised Trabzonspor defence, unable to produce the decisive touch that has become the hallmark of his impressive loan stint in Turkey.

Mixed evening for Osimhen despite energetic display

Victor Osimhen gave a tireless performance at Papara Park but found himself frustrated by a resolute Trabzonspor backline.

The Nigerian forward registered two shots on target and two off, with one attempt blocked, as he tried to extend his impressive scoring streak. While he completed 75% of his passes (9/12) and won four of eight ground duels, he struggled in the air, coming out on top in just three of nine aerial battles.

He also completed two of five dribble attempts and lost possession nine times, reflecting a night of near misses and tight marking. Despite the effort, it was a rare outing where his influence didn’t translate into goals.

Osimhen has scored an impressive 33 goals and contributed 6 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. The 26-year-old's loan stint with the Turkish champions is expected to conclude at the end of the season.

With a €75 million (£63.2 million) release clause in his Napoli contract, the Nigerian striker has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus, and Liverpool.
