Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was absent from Sevilla’s Copa del Rey defeat to Almería on Saturday.
The 28-year-old is the team’s top scorer in the competition, having notched three goals in two games.
However, Sevilla were unable to qualify for the next round as they lost 4-1 to the Segunda División side.
Sevilla took an early lead through Isaac Romero, who scored in the fifth minute.
Almería then fought back, scoring three times through Marko Milovanović, who netted the equalizer, and Luis Suárez’s second-half hattrick, as Sevilla exited the competition in the Round of 32.
Why did Iheanacho miss the Game against Almería?
Sevilla coach García Pimienta, during the press conference before the game, said the forward had some physical concerns when he came back from the Christmas break.
Additionally, there are ongoing issues regarding his transfer that are being looked at.
“Kelechi came back from the break with minor discomfort, and while it’s not a serious injury, it has kept him from training this week.
“Additionally, he has offers from other clubs, and his departure seems imminent,” García Pimienta confirmed.
Iheanacho has not had the best of times since moving to Spain after his contract with Leicester City expired.
Since arriving at Sevilla, he has played only nine times in La Liga, with four of those appearances coming as a substitute, and he has yet to score a goal.
However, he has found some success in the Copa del Rey, scoring three goals in two games.
There is a strong possibility he will leave Sevilla during this winter transfer window in search of more game time with Watford, and West Bromwich Albion said to be interested in the forward.
