Kaizer Chiefs hold talks with Man United legend as Fernando Da Cruz alternative

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly spoken to a former Manchester United striker as a potential candidate for their vacant coaching position.

Chiefs are on the lookout for a new coach following the departures of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef when their contracts expired at the end of the season.

However, Frenchman Fernando Da Cruz has been widely reported to have agreed to take over with his arrival set to be later this month as per multiple outlets. Da Cruz is well known to the Chiefs players as he briefly served as assistant to former coach Nasreddine Nabi before he left to take up a role at the Moroccan FA.

Now, Sky Sports reports that Chiefs also held talks with United legend Dwight Yorke as an alternative candidate to Da Cruz although the former Trinidad and Tobago striker is veering towards taking up the Jamaica national team job.

Chiefs coaching target’s recent jobs

Yorke’s first coaching job was with Australian A-League side Macarthur Bulls, between 2022 and 2023, guiding them to the Australian Cup, the club’s first trophy.

He then coached Trinidad and Tobago from 2024-2026, narrowly missing out on a World Cup play-off place, but he has been lauded for lifting the standards of the game in the country as well as endearing the team to the fans.

While Chiefs talked to Yorke, it is reported that he is the firm favourite for the Jamaica job which fell vacant when Englishman Steve McClaren resigned last November.

That leaves the Chiefs job to Da Cruz as the Glamour Boys look to return to their glory days.
