Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung Sr is reported to have stepped in to help reach a decision on the future of coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Nabi’s future has been a subject of speculation in recent days with reports initially claiming that the club had made a decision to part ways with him at the end of the season despite winning the Nedbank Cup.

However, Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr later clarified that the coach is part of their plans but that a review of the entire season will be conducted at the end of the campaign, with sections of the club’s hierarchy reportedly not happy with the tactician’s performance.

But now, Soccer Laduma reports that the club’s chairman Motaung Sr has intervened, urging the rest to give Nabi time to turn the club’s fortunes around, as he still has one year remaining on his contract with the club also having an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

“The chairman is quite positive about Nabi and believes the process needs to continue with the coach receiving adequate support. He has told management to let the coach see out his contract,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

That gives Nabi time to prove that the poor performances of this season was not down to him but due to the low quality of his squad with the veteran Tunisian having asked for new signings to boost the team.

Nabi has said on numerous occasions how he still needs to fix many things at the club and he has asked for specific targets that he wants the club to bring in for him to have confidence of doing well next season and he is reported to be ready to quit if he is not backed in the transfer market.
