Kaze outlines qualities that make Kaizer Chiefs’ match winner Flavio Silva special

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has given reasons why he was confident striker Flavio Da Silva would come up with something special in their win over Durban City.

Silva headed in a beautiful goal in the 87th minute as Chiefs returned to winning ways in the PSL when they beat Gavin Hunt’s men 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.

The new signing was introduced in the 80th minute, making his return to the team after a few weeks out with an injury, and he had an instant impact.

According to Kaze, his team was below par because of their exertions in the CAF Confederations Cup, when they beat AS Simba from DR Congo 3-1 last Sunday, but was delighted that his team won ugly.

“Sunday, we had a very tough game mentally, physically,” Kaize told SuperSport TV.

“Today it’s true that we were not at our best but it’s a league, it’s a marathon you need to win even when we’re not at our best.

“Because I remember few weeks ago there were some games we had like 70% possession, 20 shots on target we didn’t win the game. It’s those games like today you’re not at our best and you need to win to get the three points.”

What has Chiefs coach said about Flavio Silva?

Kaze then waxed lyrical about the qualities of Silva, giving reasons why he knew the Portuguese striker would flourish.

“We knew that Silva is a box striker,” added the Burundian tactician. “He’s always there on the rebound, on the crosses because he was injured the last time. We couldn’t give him more minutes. But it’s a player that we trust and he can give us a lot.”

Chiefs’ win saw them move to third spot on the PSL table with 19 points, two adrift of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and one ahead of Orlando Pirates.
