Mayo in line to make Chiefs debut against Sekhukhune? Nabi responds

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained when fans can expect to see new signing Khanyisa Mayo in action for the club.

Mayo signed for Chiefs on a season-long loan from Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad this month after falling out of favour under coach Sead Ramovic.

The former Cape Town City forward linked up with his new team-mates last Friday but according to Nabi, he has not been cleared in time to play against Sekhukhune United in a top of the table clash on Tuesday.

Chiefs will take on Babina Noko at the FNB Stadium with the winner of the contest set to move top of the table but Mayo will be a spectator as he is yet to receive a clearance given his registration process is not complete yet.

Nabi provides update on new signing

“I was not in training because I came from Angola to watch the opponent,” Nabi told the media on Monday.

“I’ll look at the reports today, but I have the group. I don’t have players with [injuries], apart from the players with long-term injuries – Given Msimango and Rushwin Dortley.

“Apart from them, Khanyisa’s registration is not yet ready. But physically, he is ready, because three to four days ago he trained with CR Belouizdad in Algeria.”

When can Chiefs fans expect to see Mayo?

Mayo will likely be available at the weekend when Chiefs begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with the first preliminary round first leg match away to Angolan side Kabuscorp on Saturday September 20.

Chiefs have started the season in brilliant fashion, with four wins and a draw while not conceding a goal, and will be looking to maintain that form against Sekhukhune, who are also unbeaten.

Amakhosi supporters are eager to see Mayo in action with the player also expressing his excitement at following in his father’s footsteps by joining Chiefs after rejecting offers from other clubs abroad.
