Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says the international break gave him an opportunity to assess some of his fringe players.
Chiefs are among the teams who did not lose many players to their national teams during the international break with defender Rushwin Dortley the only one from the side who was called up to the Bafana Bafana squad and the tactician took full advantage.
Chiefs featured in the Home of Legends Cup alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows and Chippa United and went on to win it.
Nabi admits it was an important period for his team, especially those who had been out with long-term injuries, giving him a clear picture of who they are and what to expect from them.
How was the FIFA break beneficial to Nabi?
“We got the maximum from this FIFA break, we organised and participated in the friendly games and I gave the maximum time to some players who had been out for a long time after big injuries,” said Nabi.
“Some players had not had a lot of time to play like Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Pule Mmodi and Dillon Solomons, it provided the maximum this FIFA break.”
Nabi hopes what he saw will lead to an upturn in form after his team had failed to win their three games prior to the break.
Chiefs suffered two defeats while recording one draw, leading to the FIFA window, but they have a chance to right those wrongs against Richards Bay at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
