Percy Tau transfer: Al Ahly coach comments on Bafana star’s future

Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller claims Bafana Bafana winger Percy Tau still has a future at the club amid reports that the club has agreed to terminate his contract.

Tau is reported to be close to leaving the Egyptian giants this month after reportedly coming to an agreement to pay off the rest of his contract.

The winger has fallen out of favour under Koller since the final months of last season with the Swiss coach using him sparingly and even with claims that he is out more than in, the tactician claims he is part of his future plans.

“South African Percy Tau is with us and is part of our future plans and we are only thinking about tomorrow’s match,” Koller said as quoted by Algeria outlet Koora when quizzed over Tau’s future ahead of Saturday’s CAF Champions League clash against CR Belouizdad.

Al Ahly have identified Tau’s replacement

Tau and Al Ahly have been locked into a dispute over the best way to part ways after the Cairo Red Devils suggested to pay off half of his wages to leave but he insisted on the full sum of $600,000 which is what is remaining on his $1.2 million per year deal that will expire in June.

Al Ahly have reportedly lined up Brazilian forward Ewerton from Czech side Banik Ostrava to replace Tau with an eye on the FIFA Club World Cup set to take place in June and July in the United States.

Tau has won 11 trophies, including two Champions League and as many league titles, having scored 30 goals and provided 14 assists, in 125 games across all competitions since joining Al Ahly in January 2021.

His uncertain future in Egypt has put a number of clubs on alert, including Kaizer Chiefs, Zamalek and Pitso Mosimane’s Iranian side Esteghlal.
