Teboho Mokoena: Agent lists two reasons Sundowns will not sale in-demand midfielder

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has been rumoured to be on the radar of Egyptian giants Al Ahly but his agent has poured cold water on the reports.

Mokoena has been thrust in the transfer spotlight following the opening of the January window with Al Ahly reported to be considering him as an alternative to Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng who is coming to the end of his deal.

While Mokoena is one of the finest defensive midfielders on the continent, he remains a valuable player for Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, while he has a contract with PSL giants until 2029, having penned fresh terms last year.

According to SoccerBeat, the midfielder’s agent Glyn Binkin has made it clear that the player’s future remains at Chloorkop for two main reasons.

What has Mokoena’s agent said?

“The only people contacting me for Mokoena-Al Ahly are Egyptian journalists,” SoccerBeat’s Peter du Toit said while reading a message sent to him by Binkin.

“Every single window there is speculation about Mokoena and Al Ahly but I don’t believe that Sundowns will sell him to their biggest competitor on the continent and Al Ahly would pay the transfer fee that a team like Sundowns would want.”

That effectively ends any speculation linking the player to Al Ahly although things could change if a club from overseas shows interest in the 28-year-old.

Mokoena signed for Sundowns from SuperSport United in 2022 and has won four PSL titles, having made 156 appearances, scored 13 goals and weighed in with 12 assists.
