Vilakazi and Shabalala’s agent addresses indiscipline claims among Chiefs duo

Prominent agent Mike Makaab has firmly dismissed speculation that Kaizer Chiefs youngsters Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala were excluded from the recent Soweto Derby squad due to disciplinary issues.

The pair’s absence from the team sheet for the 3-0 defeat against Orlando Pirates fuelled rumours that they had been dropped for misconduct. However, their representative has now set the record straight, corroborating the club’s official stance.

Following the match, co-coach Cedric Kaze had already clarified the situation, stating that Vilakazi was sidelined with an injury while Shabalala‘s omission was a “technical decision.”

Speaking on Gagasi FM, Makaab confirmed these reasons and expressed his disappointment with the unfounded reports.

“There is absolutely no truth at all in those rumours,” Makaab stated. “I can tell you that Mfundo Vilakazi picked up a small knock. I’ve personally seen the doctor’s report.”

He added that he had spoken with Vilakazi, who confirmed the injury was not serious. Regarding Shabalala, Makaab reiterated the coach’s explanation.

“In terms of Mduduzi Shabalala, you heard what coach Kaze said; it was a tactical decision. So, I can tell you that wherever that report has come from, it’s totally unsubstantiated, and it saddens me,” he explained.

Makaab warned against the damage such speculation can cause, noting, “The minute you make statements like that, you start allowing the public to question the commitment of these youngsters. And these young players are hurting as much as anybody is hurting… in terms of the defeat over the weekend.”

Kaizer Chiefs, who have lost four of their last five matches, will look to bounce back on Tuesday evening when they face Richards Bay at a sold-out uMhlathuze Stadium, with kick-off at 19:30. A victory would see the Amakhosi, currently fifth in the Premier Soccer League standings with two games in hand, climb back into third place.
