Arokodare: ‘5 more months’ – Genk’s plan to discourage January exit

KRC Genk manager Thorsten Fink has laid down the challenge to forward Tolu Arokodare, urging him to give his all in the final months of the season, with the promise of a major summer transfer looming if he rises to the occasion.

The 24-year-old has netted 13 goals and registered four assists in 20 games, leading the scoring charts and attracting interest from top clubs.

Arokodare's transformation has been remarkable, especially considering the earlier criticism from fans for not meeting expectations.

The German manager manager believes the next few months could be pivotal in shaping the Nigerian forward's future.

Will Arokodare leave Genk in January?

In a recent interview with DAZN, as quoted by Voetbalkrant, Fink encouraged Tolu Arokodare to push himself in the remaining months of the season, hinting at a potential high-profile transfer in the summer.

“Now I've told him: Boy, five more months of full throttle. And I think he'll be able to choose the clubs. If he even wants to leave,” he said.

Arokodare scored 15 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions last season, but this campaign has seen him elevate his performance to new heights.

In recent months, he has attracted interest from Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor and Premier League club Fulham.

Genk's dependence on transfer income has raised questions about the burly forward's future at the club.

The club have a history of selling key players during the winter transfer window, with recent departures including Paul Onuachu, Daniel Muñoz, and Joseph Paintsil.

Arokodare himself joined the Belgian outfit in a €5 million transfer from Amiens SC in January 2023.
