Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare has earned high praise from KRC Genk head coach, Thorsten Fink, who commended the forward's remarkable progress in attack and his newfound dedication to defensive responsibilities.
The Box-to-Box product arrived at Genk with significant promise and faced criticism from the club’s supporters last season for his inconsistency in front of goal.
However, Arokodare has transformed that narrative this term, winning over the De Smurfen faithful with standout performances.
Fink highlighted the 24-year-old’s all-round abilities, labeling him a complete striker following his goal and assist in Genk’s recent 2-0 victory over Anderlecht.
“Tolu is a top striker. He is fast, strong in the air, left and right-footed, and he scores. What more could you want as a coach? Moreover, he now also carries out his defensive duties, which he didn’t do before,” Fink told Het Nieuwsblad.
Stats back the praise from Thorsten Fink
The Nigerian forward’s numbers show his progress. Arokodare scored 15 goals in 52 games across all competitions last season, but this campaign has seen him reach new heights.
In just 21 appearances, he has already netted 12 goals and provided six assists.
Arokodare’s improved efficiency is evident in his per-90 metrics. He now averages 4.4 shots per game, with a scoring frequency of 143 minutes, despite missing 16 big chances this season.
Additionally, his contributions extend beyond goals, as he has won 62% of aerial duels and created six big chances for his teammates.
With 25 league goals in just two seasons, Arokodare has already surpassed Super Eagles legend Stephen Keshi's tally of 24 in Belgium.
His current form suggests he may soon challenge the records of Nigerian greats Joseph Akpala (90 goals), Paul Onuachu (79), and Tosin Dosunmu (68).
