Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare is preparing for KRC Genk's crucial matchup against GAA Gent at the Ghelamco Arena this Sunday.
The KRC Genk striker, currently the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League, is not only eager for the match against Gent due to its significance but also because he holds fond memories of the opposition.
The 23-year-old made his Genk debut and scored his first goal for the club in a thrilling 3-2 away victory over Gent in the Belgian Pro League in 2023, shortly after joining from French side Amiens.
With a strong determination to secure three points, Arokodare acknowledges the challenges ahead but emphasises his team’s focus on executing their game plan without distraction.
Arokodare reflects on fond memories and focuses on victory against Gent
Speaking to the club's official website, Arokodare expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming match and reflected on his debut at Gent, where he scored his first goal for the club.
“The trip to Ghent brings back good memories. That was where I made my debut for Genk and immediately scored my first goal,” he said.
He acknowledges the challenges ahead, noting, “On Sunday, we will go all out for the three points again, even though we know it will be a difficult match. Gent has a good home reputation, but we focus completely on our own game and do not let ourselves be distracted too much by the opponent.”
Genk currently sits at the top of the Jupiler Pro League, enjoying a five-point lead over second-placed Royal Antwerp FC, while Gent holds the fourth position in the standings.
In the current campaign, Arokodare has been a key contributor, recording eight goal involvements in 11 matches with seven goals and one assist, while averaging 82 minutes of play per game.
