Super Eagles hopeful Tolu Arokodare notched his 10th league goal of the season as KRC Genk fought to a 2-2 draw against Sint-Truidense V.V. on Sunday.

The dramatic clash at the Daio Wasabi Stayen Stadium saw league leaders Genk salvaging a point thanks to a late own goal by Sint-Truidense’s Leo Kokubo.

The match started on a high for Genk, with Arokodare breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute. His well-taken right-footed strike from the right side of the box, following a VAR review, handed Genk an early lead.

The Lagos-born forward remained a constant presence in the attack, recording eight attempts, two on target, four off target, and two blocked but his clinical edge eluded him at crucial moments.

Arokodare’s influence and performance

Arokodare played the full 90 minutes, making 37 touches and completing 17 of his 22 attempted passes with 77% accuracy. He also won all five of his aerial duels and succeeded in one of two ground duels, underlining his physical presence in the box.

However, the Nigerian struggled to connect with his teammates in decisive areas, registering no key passes or successful dribbles.

Despite these limitations, Arokodare’s ability to position himself effectively was evident, as he produced several headed efforts, including a close-range attempt in the 93rd minute that was blocked.

His expected goals (xG) of 0.55 reflected his ability to create significant opportunities, even in a game where Genk appeared off their best form.

The result leaves Genk atop the league with 35 points from 16 games, boasting 11 wins, two draws, and three losses. They have also scored 33 goals while conceding 21.

Arokodare is leading the scoring charts alongside Adriano Bertaccini of Sint-Truidense and Kasper Dolberg of Anderlecht.
