Nottingham Forest are set to listen to offers for Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi this month if they can secure a replacement of similar ability.
The Nigeria international arrived in the summer of 2022 from Union Berlin for a then-club record £17 million, immediately making an impact in his debut Premier League season.
Awoniyi netted 10 goals in 27 league appearances, despite missing 13 games through injury. His contribution was vital to Forest's survival, highlighted by a blistering run of six goals in the final five matches of the campaign.
The 2023/24 season proved more challenging as injuries again hampered the 27-year-old. He made 23 appearances and scored six goals, and Forest narrowly avoided relegation that season, finishing 17th in the Premier League.
This term, under Nuno Espírito Santo, Awoniyi has found himself on the fringes of the squad, having failed to score in 15 appearances in all competitions.
New Zealand international Chris Wood has emerged as Forest’s main attacking threat, scoring 10 goals in 17 appearances and forming a partnership with Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Chelsea fans push for Awoniyi amid Nkunku concerns
Chelsea fans have reignited interest in Awoniyi, with many urging the club to make a move for the striker.
Discontent with Christopher Nkunku’s form, particularly after an underwhelming showing in the recent defeat to Ipswich, has led to calls for the Frenchman to be sold.
Chelsea previously enquired about Awoniyi during the final days of the 2023 summer transfer window, according to reports.
With Nottingham Forest reportedly open to offers this month, the striker's name could resurface as a target for Chelsea in the January window.
