Victor Osimhen’s perfect partner? Why Jamal Musiala beats Bruno Fernandes for Galatasaray

Published on by

Galatasaray are dreaming big as star forward and Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen looks set to stay in Istanbul beyond the summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Turkish giants are now looking at two of Europe’s elite attacking midfielders – Jamal Musiala and Bruno Fernandes – as they prepare for the new season.

According to reports from Turkey, the Super Lig champions are exploring the possibility of signing Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala on a one-year loan. Turkish newspaper Hürriyet claimed that representatives of the Germany international had offered the 23-year-old to the Istanbul club, with Galatasaray hoping to repeat the same loan formula that helped them land Osimhen.

Musiala, who is valued at around €100 million, endured an injury-hit 2025-26 season and managed only 15 Bundesliga appearances. Reports suggest Bayern’s arrival of attacking midfielder Ismael Saibari could increase competition for places under coach Vincent Kompany. This could open the door to a temporary move for Musiala where the Germany international could regain full match fitness and regular playing time.

At the same time, Galatasaray have also been strongly linked with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. Club president Dursun Özbek and coach Okan Buruk reportedly view the Portugal international as their dream signing for a squad they hope can challenge Europe’s elite in the UEFA Champions League.

Reports claim Galatasaray are ready to offer between €30 million and €35 million, although Manchester United are believed to value their captain closer to €50 million. Reports suggest that Fernandes has been offered a 3+1-year contract worth €15 million annually, with bonuses and image rights capable of increasing his earnings to around €21 million per season.

The move remains difficult. Manchester United manager Michael Carrick reportedly considers Fernandes untouchable, while Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr have the financial power to outbid almost any European side.

Osimhen set to spearhead Galatasaray’s attack

Galatasaray’s transfer strategy revolves around one player: Victor Osimhen.

The Barcelona-linked Nigeria international, Turkish football’s record signing, is expected to lead the line again as Galatasaray defend their Turkish Super Lig title and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

Osimhen’s greatest strength is his movement inside the penalty area. The Super Eagles striker constantly attacks space behind defenders, wins aerial battles and finishes chances with either foot or his head. His speed also makes him nearly unstoppable during quick transitions.

To get the best out of the 27-year-old, Galatasaray need a creative midfielder capable of supplying regular chances while also creating space for his runs.

That explains why the Turkish champions are searching for another elite attacking player despite already strengthening several areas of the squad. Whether it is Musiala or Fernandes, the goal is to provide Osimhen with the service needed to score even more goals next season.

Musiala vs Fernandes: Who is the better fit for Osimhen?

Both players are among Europe’s finest creators, but they influence games in very different ways.

Musiala ranks among the best dribblers in the world. He regularly beats defenders in one-on-one situations, carries the ball into dangerous areas and forces two or three opponents to leave their positions to stop him. That movement naturally opens gaps for a striker like Osimhen to attack.

Instead of relying mainly on long passes, Musiala creates chaos inside the penalty area. Once defenders step out to challenge him, Osimhen can exploit the spaces left behind with his sharp movement and finishing ability.

Fernandes offers different qualities. The Manchester United captain is an outstanding passer who constantly looks for through balls, crosses and quick forward passes. He also delivers dangerous corners and free kicks while creating chances at an elite level.

However, Fernandes often shoots from distance and attempts difficult passes that carry a higher risk of losing possession. He also likes to control games from deeper areas rather than driving into the penalty box.

Musiala, therefore, appears to be the more natural partner for an Osimhen whose biggest weapon is attacking space close to goal,

His dribbling forces defenders out of shape, creates larger gaps between centre-backs and allows Osimhen to make the explosive runs that have made him a nightmare for even the best of defences. Fernandes would still improve Galatasaray’s creativity, but Musiala’s ability to disrupt defensive structures could unlock an even higher goalscoring level from the Nigerian star.

Verdict: Musiala or Fernandes?

If Galatasaray could somehow complete either deal, both would strengthen the team. But purely from a tactical point of view, Jamal Musiala looks like the player most likely to unleash the very best version of Victor Osimhen.
