Chelsea legend William Gallas believes Victor Osimhen will be a perfect fit for the Premier League outfit.
Gallas, who lined up for the Blues from 2001 to 2006 and won two Premier League titles with them, also sees the Nigeria international joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the summer.
Osimhen has been in the spotlight in recent times, with many of Europe’s elite clubs seeking to sign him from Serie A side Napoli.
The 25-year-old just returned from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024), where he helped his country to reach the final, although they were beaten to the trophy by hosts Ivory Coast.
Gallas sees Osimhem signing for Chelsea
With the transfer speculations surrounding Osimhen heightening with each passing week, Gallas believes the striker will join Chelsea.
The former France defender compared Osimhen’s style of play to that of Blues legend Didier Drogba and said he would thrive in England.
“In my opinion, he will sign for Chelsea next summer. Personally, I don't know Victor, but I notice a resemblance with Didier Drogba. The latter he was really strong in the penalty area. Osimhen on the other hand is even faster.”
Osimhen says his future is already decided
Osimhen recently disclosed that, despite being linked with several clubs, he has already made up his mind on his next destination.
While the Nigerian did not explicitly confirm whether he was leaving Napoli or staying, he noted that he knew the next step of his career and would announce his decision at the end of the season.
“The rumour is going around about me linked with the Premier League. When you're one of the hottest strikers on the globe, you expect this type of thing, and of course, the Premier League is one of the biggest and best leagues in the whole world,” Osimhen told CBS Sports during the AFCON.
“I'm with Napoli, I signed a new contract. I'm enjoying my time there. I think I've already made up my mind, I already know what I want to do in my career.
“Since I've started, I've been the one making my own decisions and everything is working out well for me. I already know the next step I want to take, so for now I just want to finish the season strong. I will [then] go relax somewhere with my daughter, think about my life and then finally come out with a decision that I've already made.”
Osimhen left out of Napoli squad for Genoa clash
Meanwhile, Osimhen was not included in Napoli’s squad for their Serie A clash against Genoa on Saturday, February 17.
The 25-year-old, who has been involved in seven goals and two assists in 13 league matches this season, returned to training on Friday, after representing Nigeria at the AFCON.
However, he was not part of the squad to face Genoa, with Napoli going on to draw the game following Cyril Ngonge’s last-minute equaliser.
A statement from Napoli confirmed the striker’s return to training, but said he only did some recovery work and trained on his own.
“Napoli trained this morning at the SSCN Konami Training Center. The Azzurri are preparing for the match against Genoa scheduled for tomorrow at the Maradona Stadium for the 25th matchday of Serie A (3pm),” the statement said.
“The team trained on field 2 where they began the session with a warm-up and a bull. Subsequently, the group carried out speed exercises and tactical technical work.
“Closing of the session with a game on a small pitch. Victor Osimhen returned from commitments with his national team and carried out personalized recovery work on the pitch, work which will continue tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Osimhen is expected to feature in Napoli’s upcoming UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Barcelona on Wednesday.
