Super Eagles players arrive at camp for Ghana & Mali friendlies

Ahead of the international friendly matches against the Black Stars of Ghana and the Eagles of Mali, 10 players have arrived at the Super Eagles camp in Marrakech, Morocco as the three-time African champions begin preparations.

This was confirmed on the official X handle of the Super Eagles of Nigeria earlier on Tuesday and it was stated that the first training session with coach Finidi George who is currently in charge will be held at 4:30 pm later today.

The players in camp as at press time are the UK-based quartet of Cyriel Dessers, the Rangers forward making a return to the squad after missing out on the recently-concluded AFCON that was held in Ivory Coast, Fulham's duo of Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi and West Bromwich Albion's Semi Ajayi.

Others are Moses Simon, Nathan Tella who is currently on a brilliant run with Bayer Leverkusen as they have stayed unbeaten so far this season, Jamilu Collins, Bruno Onyemaechi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and the team's standout performer at the last AFCON – Chippa United's Stanley Nwabali. 

More players are expected to join the Super Eagles in camp

Meanwhile, African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen will miss the tie due to an injury confirmed by his club on Monday. Due to this injury, he did not participate in Napoli's clash with league leaders Inter Milan last weekend.

Also, another Italian-based defender Tyrone Ebuehi would miss out of the friendlies after his Empoli side confirmed that his recent injury has ruled him out of action for the rest of the season. 

Others expected are Francis Uzoho, Olorunleke Ojo, Kenneth Omeruo, Chidozie Awaziem, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Benjamin Tianimu, Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Alhassan Yusuf, Raphael Onyedika, Ademola Lookman, Sadiq Umar, Taiwo Awiniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

The two warm-up games against the West African rivals will be played on March 22 and 26 respectively.

It will be used to fine-tune the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa that is slated for June with the Super Eagles of Nigeria hoping to get their campaign back on track after recording two draws from their opening two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
