Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke could benefit from Sevilla’s injury problems and go on to play a major role for the club in the 2026/27 season despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Afrik-Foot reports.
Ejuke’s future has been uncertain throughout the summer as he enters the final year of his contract. Sevilla had been keen to sell the Nigerian winger this summer so they could make a profit from his departure rather than risk losing him for free when his contract expires next year.
The 28-year-old had already attracted interest from several clubs, with Belgian side Anderlecht among those most keen on signing him. However, a move failed to materialize, leaving Ejuke at Sevilla for now.
The winger missed part of Sevilla’s pre-season but has since returned to training and could still play an important role for the Spanish club this season.

However, Sevilla have suffered some injury concerns, with a number of key players facing spells on the sidelines. The situation could create an opportunity for Ejuke to force his way into the team.
Sevilla began their 2026/27 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano last week, and the coming weeks could be important for the Super Eagles forward as he looks to establish himself in the squad.
A chance for more playing time for Ejuke
Since joining Sevilla in 2024, Ejuke has mostly been used as an impact substitute and has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. Last season, however, the Nigerian began to earn a more prominent role towards the latter stages of the campaign, giving him hope of becoming a more important player this season.
He could now be handed another opportunity following the unavailability of Swiss forward Ruben Vargas, who could miss this weekend’s game.

With Vargas unavailable, Ejuke could return to the matchday squad and potentially make his first appearance of the season. More importantly, he could be given an extended run in the team if Sevilla’s injury problems continue.
That would give the Super Eagles winger an opportunity to show what he can offer and potentially get off the mark for the season.
A more prominent role could also work in Ejuke’s favour if Vargas eventually leaves the club. The Swiss forward has been linked with a possible exit, and should that happen, Ejuke could stake his claim for the left-wing position.
An opportunity for the Super Eagles forward to earn a longer stay at Sevilla
Ejuke was expected to leave Sevilla this summer, particularly because of the club’s financial difficulties and their need to generate funds through player sales. However, he remains at the club, and his situation could change significantly if he gets an opportunity to play and impress.
If the 28-year-old can take advantage of the injuries and perform well when called upon, Sevilla could begin to see him differently. Rather than simply being a player they need to sell, he could become an important part of their plans for the season.
The Super Eagles forward has already shown glimpses of his quality since arriving at the club, and a consistent run of games could allow him to produce more of those performances.

A strong campaign could even convince Sevilla to offer him a new contract and keep him at the club beyond the current season.
He now has an opportunity to prove his importance to the club, earn more playing time and potentially play a key role for Sevilla in the 2026/27 season.
