Taiwo Awoniyi has made it clear what Coventry City fans can expect from him after completing his move from Nottingham Forest, Afrik-Foot reports.
The 29-year-old joined Coventry in a €10.5 million deal after four seasons at Forest, where he scored 23 goals in 103 appearances.
Awoniyi arrives at a Coventry side preparing for their first Premier League campaign in 25 years, with Frank Lampard’s team facing the daunting prospect of opening the season away to reigning champions Arsenal.
For a striker who has endured an inconsistent spell at Forest in recent seasons, the move represents an opportunity to reset and prove that he can still be a decisive Premier League forward, and Awoniyi has already identified what he wants to bring to his new club.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s targets for Coventry City
1. Goals
The first target is obvious. Asked to describe his game in three words, Awoniyi replied: “I’m a goalscorer, hardworking, and powerful.”
The first word is the most important for Coventry City, who will be without Haji Wright, the striker who helped them gain promotion, for the first few weeks due to a quad tear he suffered.
The Sky Blues have returned to the Premier League after winning the Championship last season, but survival will require them to turn promising attacking play into points.
Coventry scored 97 goals in the Championship, the most across England’s top four divisions, but the Premier League will present a completely different challenge.
Awoniyi knows this level. He’s scored 21 Premier League goals across his career and found the net four times in 17 league appearances for Forest last season, despite starting only three matches.
That makes his goals valuable for Coventry. The Nigerian’s strength, movement and ability to finish inside the penalty box could give Lampard another route to goal, particularly against defenders who are likely to dominate possession against the promoted side.
Coventry do not necessarily need Awoniyi to produce a huge scoring tally. They need him to convert the chances that could make the difference between a point and a defeat, or a narrow loss and three crucial points, just like he did in his first two seasons at the City Ground.

2. Hard work
Awoniyi’s second target is less obvious on a scoresheet but is just as important: giving everything for Coventry and their supporters.
“I think for sure, goals, and hard work as well, I’ll give everything for them,” he said when asked what the Sky Blue fans can expect from him.
That promise fits the profile he has already given of himself. Awoniyi described himself as “hardworking” and “powerful”, two attributes that can make him useful even when he is not scoring.
Coventry are unlikely to have the luxury of controlling many Premier League matches. They will spend long periods defending, competing for second balls and trying to turn transitions into attacking opportunities.
That is where Awoniyi’s physicality can become useful. His ability to hold up the ball, compete with centre-backs and bring teammates into play can give Coventry an outlet when they are under pressure. His willingness to work can also help Lampard’s side defend from the front.

The challenge is significant, but so is the opportunity. Awoniyi is moving to a club that desperately needs Premier League goals, while he needs a platform to rediscover the consistency that made him such an important player for Forest.
If he can deliver both goals and the hard work he has promised, the Nigerian could quickly become a cult hero at the CBS Arena.
