“Does well for Nigeria” – What Van Dijk said about Victor Osimhen after Liverpool’s loss at Galatasaray

Published on by

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after their game against Galatasaray on Tuesday, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Reds traveled to Rams Park to take on Galatasaray in what was expected to be a tough encounter. Recall that they met in the league phase, and the Cimbom snatched a 1-0 win, courtesy of a strike from Osimhen.

This time, it was the round of 16, and the stakes were higher. However, Osimhen rose to the occasion, as he provided the assist for Galatasaray’s only goal.

Just like the last game, the 27-year-old Super Eagles striker hassled, hustled, and worried the Liverpool defenders all night.

Unfortunately for him, he failed to score on the night despite having three good looks at goal. To Galatasaray’s gain, Liverpool also had some gilt-edged chances, but they were not at their clinical best on the night, and Mario Lemina’s goal was the only thing to separate both teams in Istanbul.

After the game, Liverpool skipper Van Dijk, who was facing Victor Osimhen for the second time this season, had some nice words to say about the Super Eagles star.

He admitted that the 27-year-old has been consistently impactful for both club and country.

”Barış plays on the sides, so I didn’t see him too many times. But Osimhen, obviously, is a good striker. Does well for Galatasaray, does well for Nigeria, and it’s always a good battle,” Van Dijk said.

He then added that he is looking forward to the second leg at Anfield, as Liverpool look to stage a comeback and win the tie.

”Yeah, tough to lose. But there’s all to play for, and I’m really looking forward to the return game. So, yeah, we’ll see,” he added.

Next week at Anfield will be a bigger test for Victor Osimhen and his Galatasaray side. The Reds faithful will swarm the stadium, and they will definitely create a hostile atmosphere.

Osimhen has visited Anfield once, and that was while he was at Napoli. But he left there with a 2-0 loss.

Next week, he will be hoping to avoid a repeat of that scoreline by scoring the goals to lead his team to victory.
