Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo faces growing uncertainty over his long-term future at Wrexham ahead of the summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.
The Arsenal academy graduate is currently under contract at the Dragons until the end of the 2026–27 season, but there have been no agreement over an extension so far, with the possibility that he could leave for another club if no new agreement is reached.
The 24-year-old began his career at Arsenal but struggled to break into the first team due to strong competition. He spent several loan spells away from the Gunners, including a stint at Wrexham during the 2023–24 season.
The Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned club later made the move permanent the following summer and since then, he has developed into one of the club’s standout performers.

However, questions continue to grow over his long-term future, with uncertainty surrounding whether he will sign a new deal or move on.
Arthur Okonkwo’s comments fuels uncertainty
The Super Eagles shot-stopper has already attracted interest ahead of the transfer window, with former Premier League champions Leicester City reportedly among the clubs monitoring his situation.
Despite the speculation, Okonkwo made it clear in a recent interview that his current focus remains on helping Wrexham push for Premier League promotion after narrowly missing out last season.
The Dragons have enjoyed a remarkable rise, becoming the first club in English football to achieve three consecutive promotions – from the National League to the Championship in as many seasons. However, they finished seventh last campaign, missing out on the playoffs by just two points.

“I don’t think it was a sad ending. I think, obviously, we were close”, Okonkwo said, via Ratings.
“So, you know, it hurts a little, but we did really well this season. The next thing is to push for promotion next season. That’s been the idea since I’ve been there, so I don’t see any change for next season.
“Just to play as many games as possible and help whoever, Nigeria, Wrexham, or whoever I’m with, win as many games as possible,” he added, when asked about his future plans.
What this means for Wrexham future
Arthur Okonkwo’s rise at Wrexham has been impressive, with his performances also earning him a Super Eagles debut after switching international allegiance from England to Nigeria.
He made his debut in a 2–0 win over Zimbabwe at the Unity Cup and kept another clean sheet in the final as Nigeria beat Jamaica 3–0 to win the tournament.
His future, however, remains uncertain, with reports suggesting he could leave as early as this summer to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer later.
While there have been no confirmed talks over a new deal, his recent comments suggest a strong commitment to Wrexham’s promotion push and left a major impression that he may still be open to staying at the club.

That would also deal a major blow to Leicester City’s interest, as the former Premier League champions had been hoping to lure him away.
With Okonkwo leaning towards a contract extension, his focus will be on helping Wrexham achieve their ambition of securing promotion to the Premier League next season, after narrowly missing out in the previous campaign.
